The Saturation Measure

The saturation s is defined as

and measures the resolution of the units. An s-value close to unity signals that the unit has ``made up its mind'' whereas an s value close to zero means that it is still learning. The saturation, which is monitored by a nonzero value for MSTJN(22), is consequently a measure of to what extent the network is learning or not. This is practical when proper learning parameter values are being tried out.
